New Painting
Quiet Reflections
Watercolor 16" x 20" Matted
I took a picture of this scene at the Riverbanks Zoo last year. I'm not so much a landscape painter so it took awhile and some help to get started on it. Last week I went back to the zoo to get another look at this scene. I was amazed that it really wasn't a huge pond as I had remembered it, but instead a miniature scene with a child size deck. It was hardly recognizable as my original picture.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 30
Serenity
6" x 8" Watercolor
For my last painting of this 30 paintings in 30 days challenge I've chosen a picture of my little brother who is enjoying every day of his retirement in upstate VT. Hope you like it Tom.
So happy the challenge is now over and I can get on to doing some other things, like quilting, however, I'm also in two watercolor groups and taking a watercolor class so I will still be painting.

Iris
6" x 8" Watercolor
This painting is from one of the many, many pictures I've taken of the iris' that grow in my garden. Every spring, when they reappear I'm amazed at how beautiful they are.

49 Chevy
9" x 12" Watercolor
My neighbor has this old pick-up in his back yard. It looked like a challenging picture to paint, so I attempted it. Now I hear I'll have to update the painting because it's soon to get a visor. What??

Lily on the Hudson
6" x 8" Watercolor
Went back home (Rensselaer NY) to visit where I grew up and this lily was blooming across the street. I believe it to be the same one my Father planted years ago. Could that be? Do they keep coming back for more than 20 years?? Anyway, the plant was large and beautiful with the Hudson River as it's backdrop.

Charleston Basket Lady
6" x 8" Watercolor
The basket lady is always at the Market Place in downtown Charleston. She makes and sells hundreds and hundreds of these baskets in all sizes, and is very gracious about having her picture taken. I tried to make a basket just once and ended up with a coaster. It's hard work!

Simply Southern
6" x 8" Watercolor
Thought today would be a good day to paint a magnolia. It's done in the style I learned from a workshop with Carol Carter, splash the water and paint around. Love that style but rarely use it.

The Farm
5.5" x 8" Watercolor
Many week-ends were spent here at my Grandfather's dairy farm where my Dad grew up. My cousins would be there and we all had a great time playing and sometime even helping. It was fun checking out the cows and even bailing the hay. The farm stayed in the family 100 years and was just sold this past year. A sad day!

I have been wanting to paint this scene for a long time, ever since Lady Street had these major renovations. I'll paint a larger version the next time.

Sylvan's Clock
5.5" x 8" Watercolor
Sylvan's clock is apparently an icon in Columbia. It sits on the corner of Hampton and Main streets downtown. People like to take pictures of it and some like me like to paint it. Maybe the next time I'll paint all of it. :)

Free Range Jane
5.5" x 8" Watercolor
A Colorado trip is where I found this guy running free, hence the name. She was kind of hiding in the weeds. In Colorado, they have the right away so you need to be careful when driving. They are all over.

Under The Bridge
5.5" x 8" Watercolor
Can this be day 9 already? Ask Bob and he'll tell you day 30 is slow at coming. Dinner late every night. :) I got an early start on it today and this is from another photo I took down by the river walk the other day. This kayak was actually headed in the wrong direction, I thought, against the current.

The Boss
5.5" x 8" Watercolor
Not sure what this guys real name was so I'm calling him "The Boss". He was at a farm where I attended a fun Plein Air function a couple of years ago. I must say he wasn't very cooperative about getting his picture taken as he kept hiding. Finally, I got it and now he's been painted.

The bench in this garden was so inviting. It was located near the Koi pond up in Lancaster PA. I could have sat there all day watching the Koi swim around.

This is another pretty house in Charleston that needed to be painted. Charleston is such a wonderful quaint town, I just love visiting there and taking pictures for future paintings. There is so much subject matter there.

30 Paintings 30 Days Challenge
I've signed up for Leslie Saeta's September "30 Paintings in 30 Days" Challenge". I participated in the same challenge in January and thanks to Leslie I learned a lot more than just to stay focused and complete a painting every day. Blogging, posting my paintings, making a collage of my paintings, etc. are just a few of things Leslie shared and that I learned. I'm looking forward to this next challenge and this time I'll be posting them here.

High and Dry
Watercolor 16" x 20" frame
I painted this watercolor a while back from a photograph I took of a local kayak store. The lights, the shadows, the colors and not to mention my local art supply store in the background were the things that made me want to paint this painting.
I entered it into the South Carolina State Fair juried show and won 3rd place.

30 Painting in 30 Days
February 1, 2013
I have just finish Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge. It was fun but sometimes stressful completing a painting each and every day for 30 days. I'm happy I did it and got a lot out of it. Mainly I was able to go into my studio and ignore all the distractions in it and just focus on painting. Thanks to Leslie I was also able to make this collage of each of my paintings. Most paintings are small, 6" x 8" with a few 9" x 12". Later I will post each one individually.
