30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 30

                                                                        Serenity
                                                               6" x 8" Watercolor

For my last painting of this 30 paintings in 30 days challenge I've chosen a picture of my little brother who is enjoying every day of his retirement in upstate VT.  Hope you like it Tom.
So happy the challenge is now over and I can get on to doing some other things, like quilting, however, I'm also in two watercolor groups and taking a watercolor class so I will still be painting.

                                                                  Leaf Peeping

Our trip to Ashville is the reference photo for this painting.  The leaves were just starting to change color.

                                                                            Iris
                                                                6" x 8"  Watercolor

This painting is from one of the many, many pictures I've taken of the iris' that grow in my garden.  Every spring, when they reappear I'm amazed at how beautiful they are.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 27

                                                                     49 Chevy
                                                             9" x 12" Watercolor

My neighbor has this old pick-up in his back yard.  It looked like a challenging picture to paint, so I attempted it.  Now I hear I'll have to update the painting because it's soon to get a visor.  What??

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 24

                                                              Lily on the Hudson
                                                              6" x 8" Watercolor

Went back home (Rensselaer NY) to visit where I grew up and this lily was blooming across the street.  I believe it to be the same one my Father planted years ago.  Could that be?  Do they keep coming back for more than 20 years??  Anyway, the plant was large and beautiful with the Hudson River as it's backdrop.

                                                                      Bud Study
                                                              5.5" x 8" Watercolor

                                                                    Pepper Study
                                                             5.5" x 8" Watercolor

The pepper was the only veggie in my fridge that had the potential of a painting.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 20

                                                               Charleston Basket Lady
                                                                  6" x 8" Watercolor

The basket lady is always at the Market Place in downtown Charleston.  She makes and sells  hundreds and hundreds of these baskets in all sizes, and is very gracious about having her picture taken.    I tried to make a basket just once and ended up with a coaster.  It's hard work!

                                                                   Lazy Days

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 16

                                                                  Simply Southern
                                                                 6" x 8" Watercolor

Thought today would be a good day to paint a magnolia.  It's done in the style I learned from a workshop with Carol Carter, splash the water and paint around.  Love that style but rarely use it.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 15

                                                                   The Farm
                                                          5.5" x 8"  Watercolor

Many week-ends were spent here at my Grandfather's dairy farm where my Dad grew up.  My cousins would be there and we all had a great time playing and sometime even helping.  It was fun checking out the cows and even bailing the hay.  The farm stayed in the family 100 years and was just sold this past year.  A sad day!

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 14

                                                                 Lady Street
                                                         5.5" x 8"  Watercolor

I have been wanting to paint this scene for a long time, ever since Lady Street had these major renovations.  I'll paint a larger version the next time.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 13

                                                             White Mountain Sunset
                                                               5.5" x 8" Watercolor

My cousin sent me the reference photo for this painting of a sunset in New Hampshire.   I can tell she loves living in NH and I can see why.  This one is for you Cindy!

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 12

                                                                      Sylvan's Clock
                                                                 5.5" x 8" Watercolor

Sylvan's clock is apparently an icon in Columbia.  It sits on the corner of Hampton and Main streets downtown.  People like to take pictures of it and some like me like to paint it.  Maybe the next time I'll paint all of it. :)

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 11

                                                                  Free Range Jane
                                                               5.5" x 8" Watercolor

A Colorado trip is where I found this guy running free, hence the name.  She was kind of hiding in the weeds.  In Colorado, they have the right away so you need to be careful when driving.  They are all over.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 10

                                                                Sailing Beaufort
                                                                5.5" x 8" Watercolor

Day 10, one third of the way through.  The reference for this painting was taken at Huntington Island while vacationing in Beaufort, SC.  I'd love to go back there for a repeat vacation.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 9

                                                               Under The Bridge
                                                             5.5" x 8" Watercolor

Can this be day 9 already?  Ask Bob and he'll tell you day 30 is slow at coming.  Dinner late every night. :)  I got an early start on it today and this is from another photo I took down by the river walk the other day.  This kayak was actually headed in the wrong direction, I thought, against the current.

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day Eight

                                                         Along the River Walk
                                                           9" x 12" Watercolor

I saw this little girl skipping along the West Columbia river walk yesterday.  She looked like she was really enjoying the sunshine and beautiful SC weather.  I know I was enjoying it.

30 Paintings in 30 Days Day Seven

                                                                         The Boss
                                                                5.5" x 8"  Watercolor

Not sure what this guys real name was so I'm calling him "The Boss".  He was at a farm where I attended a fun Plein Air function a couple of years ago.  I must say he wasn't very cooperative about getting his picture taken as he kept hiding.  Finally, I got it and now he's been painted.

30 Paintings 30 Days Challenge - Day Six

                                                               The Garden
                                                            9" x 12" Watercolor

The bench in this garden was so inviting.  It was located near the Koi pond up in Lancaster PA.    I could have sat there all day watching the Koi swim around.

30 Paintings 30 Days Challenge Day Five

                                                               Spring in Charleston
                                                                9" x 12" Watercolor

This is another pretty house in Charleston that needed to be painted.  Charleston is such a wonderful quaint town, I just love visiting there and taking pictures for future paintings.  There is so much subject matter there.

30 Paintings 30 Days Challenge Day Four

                                                              Lily Pads and Koi
                                                             5.5" x 8" Watercolor

A quilt stop in Lancaster PA is where I happened across this pond full of Koi.   They were having a swimmingly good time posing for me.   This is the second time I painted them and never tire of it.

30 Painting 30 Days Challenge Day Three

                                                                   Isle of Palms
                                                             5.5" x 8" Watercolor

The Isle of Palms near Charleston SC  is my all time favorite place.  This painting is from a photo I took a few years ago that I just knew would one day become a painting.

30 Paintings 30 Days Challenge Day Two

Party Time
5.5" x 8"  Watercolor

Don't these little figures look like they are ready to party?  They were received from a friend and are actually resting on a shelf in my kitchen.  They make me smile!

                                                                  Wilton Pond
                                                                     5.5" x 8"

My neighbor's pond is my first painting for the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.  It's so peaceful!
